The longer I'm in this profession the more I become interested in Ancient civilizations views on sex, sexuality, and prostitution. Believe it or not ladies and gentlemen, prostitution was a sacred institution in ancient civilizations all the way up to the Victorian era. Even when you watch the old silent western movies from the 20's and 30's you'll see that EVERYONE visited whore-houses and Brothels. From the Judges to the Mayor; everyone saw the whore house as a sort of recreational place to have a drink, a nice meal, and a whore. Even during the end of slavery and the reconstruction era, many female slaves turned to prostitution to earn a living. The one true thing that all female slaves knew about white slave owners was that they LOVED black pussy. Why do you think there were over a Million mulatto, quadroon, and octoroon slaves by the end of slavery?
I even read somewhere that slave owners would finance brothel houses ran by freed slaves. So Master was no longer able to take sex from slaves but desperately wanted that black pussy, so he would frequent the local black brothels to buy it. No one in those days referred to those women as abused because they chose prostitution as a profession. Those women were looked at as pioneers because they took something like sex and understood the magnitude to which some would go to get it, and made a fortune.
Then let's not forget the courtesans of Victorian Era Europe, and how many of them gained access to certain privileges only given to royalty. In the Renaissance Era, courtesans played an important role in upper-class society, sometimes taking the place of wives at social functions. As it was customary during this time for royal couples to lead separate lives commonly marrying simply to preserve bloodlines and to secure political alliance's men would often seek sexual gratification and companionship from a courtesan.
Only during the early 70's was prostitution even documented negatively by mainstream media outlets such as movies and such. And sadly enough "Blacksploitation" films are some of the main reasons why prostitution began to get a negative view by society. Once women were put on the streets and in public view by black street pimps, it all went to hell in a hand basket.
Thank God I'm knowledgeable about the history of my chosen profession and the importance of prostitutes throughout history. Thank God for prostitutes like Madame de Pompadour who was so elegant and intelligent that the King at the Palace of Versailles would arrange for her to spend long weekends with him at the palace.
